Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) Video — Not Done: Women’s Constitutional Equality
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was passed by Congress in 1972. As of 2020 it had been ratified by 38 states — the number required for ratification. But legal disputes over the timetable for ratification, along with efforts by some states to rescind their existing ratification, have delayed its passage into law.
This video depicts the history of the struggle to legally prohibit all discrimination based on sex in the United States. The century-long fight for and against women’s constitutional equality is portrayed as ongoing — its current status in legal limbo and its future highly uncertain.
